Coffee With God: February 8th, 2023 | Psalm 52:7-8
“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction!’ But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.”
The reason we trust in God and not in riches is that God is eternal. Riches only go so far. The spiritual life is marked by a focus on the things that are not seen and touched here and now but that will one day be as tangible as your favorite sweatshirt and as satisfying as your preferred dessert.
Trusting in the Lord and his love is a learned skill. Like a muscle that must be built over time. If you make building up your “trust muscles” a priority, one day, you will wake up and realize that God’s peace has a tangible presence in your life. God’s love brings peace because, unlike the material things we so often depend on for comfort, it will never be taken away from us.
