“In him was life, and the life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:4)
You and I were created with a very specific purpose, and that purpose is to be in relationship with our creator. That may sound overly simplistic, but once you experience God in a personal, intimate, relational way, any doubts concerning life’s purpose dissipate. Human existence finds its apex in communion with the God who created and sustains us.
Life is found in Jesus Christ alone because he is both the door through which one enters God’s presence and the very image of God himself. He not only reveals who the Father is, he makes it possible for us to enter the Father’s presence. As God’s son, Jesus lived in a state of uninterrupted communion with his Heavenly Father, knowing full well his own need to depend on the Father for strength and direction. Jesus modeled a life that was God-dependent, including obediently laying down his life so that you and I could be granted eternal access to the God who loves us. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, he has given us the opportunity to become what he is – children of God. With that, our eternal purpose is renewed as we are granted everlasting access to the God who wants to know us and be known by us. This, my friends, is life; to know the Father and the Son, who has made the Father known, and who is himself the doorway to the Father’s presence.
